The Philosophy of Yoga
We will explore the origins of yoga as a school of philosophy and reference Patanjali’s Sutras, the eight limbs of Ashtanga, their significance in the practice of yoga and integrating them into our daily lives. We will discuss other significant yogic texts.
The Physical Practice
We encourage all of our students to discover the mental and physical benefits of a consistent yoga practice. Be prepared to teach and train through the learning of asanas. Learn self adjustment to protect your body and the importance of touch when adjusting others.
We will describe the structure and functions of the skeletal, muscular system in a constructive way for you to reinforce your understanding of your body movement and position. Highlighting the different bones and muscles found around the body, we'll identify the key roles of the muscles and their actions. We will also analyse the chakras, wheels of energy throughout the subtle body, and their connection with the endocrine glands.
By self-inquiry and the understanding of your values and your mission statement, you will discover your deeper voice as an authentic teacher. You will learn through explanation, demonstration, experiment and collaboration with the group.
Pranayama, Kriyas and Meditation
You will practice the combination of deep relaxation along with awareness of your breath to allow the inner intelligence of the body to re-establish balance and optimal health. Different breathing, pranayama techniques together with other cleansing methods will be practiced and learned.
